Jars of Hope: A simple act with lasting impact
aston holmes

Mandela Day is always a chance to pause and reflect on how small acts of kindness can ripple outward. This year, our Holmies marked the occasion a day early by joining the Jars of Hope initiative – filling jars with dry soup ingredients to create easy-to-make, nourishing meals for those in need this winter.
Each jar was personalised with a touch of care, and carried the shared spirit of giving. Through this simple yet heartfelt initiative, we were able to contribute 76 jars in Cape Town and 36 in Johannesburg.
The jars were delivered to Pam Golding offices, who ensured they reached shelters, hospitals, homes, and communities across Gauteng and the Western Cape. Behind every jar is a story of warmth and compassion – proof that even the smallest gestures can make a real difference to someone facing hardship this winter.
The energy, generosity, and teamwork that went into this drive reminds us that giving back is as uncoplicated as showing up, opening our hearts, and doing what we can – one jar, one meal, one act of kindness at a time.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated in making Jars of Hope a success. Together, we’re able to show what it means to live the spirit of Mandela Day. 💙
